Every year when the gardens are put to bed for the winter I go through the same cycle. First I wonder if I’m crazy for working so hard. Then I do nothing for several weeks. Then I start missing all the work in the garden. That’s when I usually start planning for the next season. That’s where I am at right now!
I’ve spent weeks coming up with lists of what I want to grow, figuring out new varieties to trial, counting last years seeds and figuring out what seeds I still need to order. Then I calculate when I want each vegetable available and figure out where each crop will be grown. It all sounds pretty straight forward, but it takes a lot of thought to get everything right.
Next up is advertising for next years CSA customers, talking to chefs about what they might want to buy, and crossing my fingers that I get accepted into the Saturday Staunton Farmers Market. Wish me luck, or call me up and buy me a beer. Norm
