Guess what? Geezer Farms tenth season has started. It has taken a while but I feel like the farm has hit it’s stride, and is exactly where I want it to be. (Other than not having pet donkeys, but that’s another post).
Last season I curtailed my photography work in order to devote myself full-time to the farm. That enabled me to sell at the Saturday Staunton Farmers Market. Being part of the farmers market community was very gratifying. The connections made with other vendors, and getting to know customers who kept coming back made me feel like I was part of a greater good.
Committing to the market and greater restaurant sales led me to committing to having a full-time helper. Without Scott Friend’s hard work last year, none of this would have been possible. (More about Scott in a later post).
Our tenth year is going to be the year of organization. I just put down a deposit on a large shed that will sit by the garden, keeping the tools and equipment more accessible. It will also allow more space in the wash-packout area to have two wash lines going. And I have a friend helping develop a way to easier track all the plant information we need to be efficient.
So all this is a way to say thank you to all the CSA customers, chefs and farmers market goers. What started as a crazy idea has become a full-time reality and made me feel like I’m doing something good for all of us.
